About Picture Pathways

Mission & History

The figures prominent in early education are predominantly white men. White, male doctors. White, male politicians. White, male scientists. The list goes on. This non-inclusive education reinforces in young children the idea that they must share that identity in order to achieve their goals. At Picture Pathways, we aim to reshape that early education. We want to introduce impactful people from various fields so that youth can look up to role models that they see themselves in.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that education should be a powerful force for inclusion, diversity, and equity. By diversifying the pool of role models and showcasing individuals from various racial, ethnic, gender, and cultural backgrounds, we aspire to break down the barriers that have historically limited the dreams and aspirations of young people who don't fit the traditional mold.

Through our commitment to inclusive education and community engagement, we envision a future where all children can see themselves in the stories they read and where diversity and equity are not just ideals but lived experiences. Together, we are fostering a more inclusive and equitable educational world, one story at a time.

What We Do

Our team works to write, illustrate, manufacture, and distribute picture books from the ground up. We ensure that each book idea is methodically researched, fact-checked, and chosen based on our core values.

Creation

All Picture Pathways books are illustrated and written by local students. A detailed editing process follows initial creation, during which all members of our team work together to ensure that the story and illustrations are as polished and thoughtful as possible.

Publication

We work closely with globally-accredited publishing companies to edit and manufacture our books. These partnerships ensure that our books meet the highest standards of quality in terms of quality, wording, and accuracy.

Distribution

Once our books are received, volunteers and team members work to distribute copies all across Boston and into surrounding neighborhoods. We collaborate with schools, community centers, and local libraries to ensure that all young people have equitable access to our work.
